Thank you Eddy and David for your analysis again.

If the polling is correct, and the ALP is returned with a majority, it is both an indictment on the poor campaign skills of the LNP, but also a reward to the ALP's sabotage of environment legislation, collusion with the LNP on raising the barriers to entry for independents, and maltreatment of the asylum seekers and refugees. Will the ALP do some good things? Of course, but the last LNP government lowered the bar massively on what we should expect from Parliament.

If all politics is local, fingers crossed that other candidates outside of the major parties get up who will provide genuine representation of their community.

It is unlikely the ALP or LNP both receive primary votes over 35%. The preferential system is designed to create majorities for parties with increasingly dwindling support. I hold out hope for a minority government. May the 1/3 of Australians who endorse neither ALP or LNP have their voices represented in the Senate which is the only real check on the major parties.

Thanks John.

One of the revealing factors of Australian politics is the tendency for people to vote against their own interests, not so that those worse off might be improved but that the more privileged might entrench that privilege further.

I think this tendency is starting to change as information is more readily available and not filtered through the loudhailers of the wealthy.

And that point about the last government lowering the bar so much is also suggestive. The alp could renege on all those things you mentioned and still get returned. And you can add their appalling management of education.

DL.

Dutton is cooked. Albanese is winning. Good chance Labor will retain majority government. At a dangerous tine, Aussies have gone for safety and competence with Albanese, rather than disruption and thought bubbles with Dutton.

Almost certain. Dutton has lost the conservative press like Sky and Channel 9. This is probably more reflective of a reactive position than any effective attempt to try and influence the outcome. In short they’ve given up. DL

I thought Dutton admittted defeat when he exchanged preferences with Pauline Hanson to try to save his own seat of Dickson. Its only on a 2% margin, so that shows they fear they could go backwards by 2%.
