Thanks for your analysis Eddy and David.

While the sentiment of the parliamentary motion was admirable, it was undermined by Dutton's opportunism as well as the PM's lack of conviction. The PM has spent much of the last year sneering at those marching in solidarity with Palestine, while remaining silent at the UN when Israel invades the sovereign territory of Lebanon. Actions are louder than words and the Government has likely alienated the constituents they claim to represent.

Chris Minns likely would not be saying the same thing if it were Ukrainian protestors. A leader of such a large state like NSW could be expected at the least to be neutral. Instead he shows how he puts the finger on the scales and polices the language and means of expression of non-Anglo minority communities. Minns is a very unimpressive Premier.

The ALP's messaging on groceries is laughable considering Albanese is happy to pose with Woolworths and Coles for pictures. They're the ones in charge and yet they pretend we need an election for legislation against price gouging to be passed.

Unfortunately we are locked into the two party system because preferential voting is about preserving the ALP and LNP duopoly. As you pointed out in your recent book, proportional representation in the form of multi member electorates would go a long way to fixing the disproportionate electoral outcomes.

Neither the ALP or LNP should be trusted when neither can muster more than 50% of the primary vote.

Thank you John. In my view Minns is the most disappointing of the Labor leaders - I expected very little and he’s struggled to reach that. A friend of mine thinks the centre left is dead. I’m starting to think he may have a point.

The words of Jason Clare - whose electorate includes Bankstown, a seat with a large middle eastern community- in which he said that he thought Israel might have violated international law - was a step in the right direction but I suspect the powerbrokers of the alp, many of whom are petrified of the Zionist lobby will make him walk it back. But I’m hopeful that this is the large ship of the alp starting to turn. DL.
