The point about Burke not even reading the legislation before he endorsed it is emblematic of how MPs from major parties no longer exercise any individual conscience and scrutiny.

Is it any wonder we get poor public policy and community outcomes when MPs and Ministers are making uninformed votes?

I’d have thought that as a federal minister looking at state issue you’d at least skim the legislation. DL.

Burke’s descent into a conscience-free policy of brutality ( including against asylum seekers and refugees 😡😡😡) against anyone who dares to protest against the genocide in Palestine is beneath contempt . Grovel , grovel , grovel to the US and Israel . 🤮🤮🤮🤮

Would it be possible to name the “nearly 20 contractors in Sydney alone, and about seventy nationwide, all feeding the Joint Strike Fighter program the Albanese Government insists has “no operational nexus””

This information needs to be to be broadcast for hose of us against the war machine.

Clear Minns went too far with the legislation and it should be repealed.

NSW Police are known for excessive violence. Remember how they bashed Covid protesters on Sydney, while in other states including Queensland their police politely supervised and handed out face masks?

One of my observations is that the traditional parties are dying and the promotion of people like Minns to leadership is a symptom. Minns has not been a total disaster but it’s clear he is not steeped in Labor tradition, despite being in young Labor. The party needs reform urgently. DL.

If the traditional parties are dying, who will replace them?

The Greens seem stuck on about 12-13%.

The Nats are stuck on about 4-5%.

Who else can command major support?

I admit to being a Labor member, because I support social justice and mild progressivism. The LNP are stuck in past thinking.

Albanese has taken Labor to a new revival, which is good, because he has dominated the centre. But where is the progressive agenda? Can Albanese use his dominance to make genuine reforms, like Hawke, Keating and Andrew Fisher (who should be more celebrated for his achievements) or will Albanese settle for playing it safe?

These are great points. I wonder if we’ll get to some kind of parliamentary or constitutional crisis? I’m much better at analysing the past than predicting the details of the future. And it is branch members who may be the saviours. Which is why I always support branch members. DL.

The majority of Australian politicians are gutless quislings for Murdoch and whatever new version of a "red scare" he wants to largely create and eccentrically amplify.

And the majority of Australian police are jumped up thugs and wannabe FBI agents.

Why is anyone surprised?

Who , from that era , can forget the vile order from Askin to his driver to “drive over the bastards “ who were daring to hold a peaceful protest at the time ?? Minns is little better in his dedication to the support of the genocidal Israeli government . It would appear that the wilful slaughter of children , families , doctors , journalists and all Palestinian civilians by the IDF is of no concern to him . That he is happy to permit the brutality of NSW Police against peaceful protesters says all that need be said of him . He and his excuse for a government are a disgrace to New South Wales .
