Voters want a return to more ambitious, values-driven government. But whether this government is prepared – or willing – to rise to that challenge remains uncertain.
If it is an ALP minority government, can Albanese work with The Greens and can The Greens resist grandstanding and undermine the stability of an ALP minority government. Only time will tell.
What I’m expecting to see is a huge scare-campaign launched by the coalition on about the 16th of April (the Wednesday before Easter). This will register just before the Easter through ANZAC Day break. By the time people start paying attention again, Labor will have less than a week to counter or refute it before election day (and many will have voted early, so won’t hear it before they’ve voted). Another piece of dead-clever brilliance from Albanese and Labor, ‘eh?
Momentum has definitely shifted towards Labor and I also expect the Greens and Independents to do well.
Dutton is too much like Trump-lite to appeal when most Aussies have a poor opinion of Trump. Dutton's 20% gas reservation policy is meaningless as there simply isn't 20% surplus gas available- it's already contracted, mostly to overseas buyers. You can't just turn up the tap to run gas wells 20% faster - they are already managed to the maximum. The only way to have 20% more gas is to drill more wells.
Dutton's nuclear fantasy would take so long and be so expensive it would actually cause higher electricity bills, not lower, and need taxpayer subsidies to be affordable.
Dutton's promise of 500,000 houses is LESS than the 1.2 million Albanese is building.
The other LNP policies are just empty slogans and dog-whistling unlikely to win the 19 seats tge LNP needs for government.
Will Albanese be able to govern alone or need the Greens and Independents? That's the real question.
Onya Albo!!!
