Again, I agree with your thoughts. It also goes to the federal government's refusal to hold the Murdoch Royal Commission which I think is self evidently necessary.

As for banning social media for under 16's, bullying has always happened, banning social media won't fix that.

It strikes me that the one of the arguments is ‘the taunts go worldwide’. Which seems unlikely - some kid in Bogotá isn’t going to care if some kid in australia is being bullied. It’s still very much a local thing. I suppose a bit more worryingly is that this stuff stays forever. But I’m not sure it does. Most of it gets deleted quickly (you don’t want evidence around) and much of it gets overwhelmed by later postings.

None of this is to condone or excuse bullying. But you’re right. Bullying existed before social media. It’s up to parents, schools and other child centric organisations to manage it out of the daily lives of people. We don’t ban recess or lunch at school. DL.
